'Waiting For Godot'
The title 'Waiting For Godot' states briefly an innocent or an infantile waiting for someone or something.Here,above in the title,who is 'Godot', is not clarified.So,One should not take this word into account as a person or as an indispensible character of the work.Here, the word waiting causes to happen an Absurdity.If 'Godot' is the God,the whole incident does not seem to be reassured.Instead of God, One can state it is waiting for TIME.Waiting for an appropriate Time to act.The characters are trying to prob into their own identity,and for this they are in search of proper Time.If One puts apart the word 'Godot' ,'Go' as an informal verb indicates to'a turn to do something',and 'dot' means 'scatter over an area'.They want something from their life,they have hope for a proper direction,but due to their poor thinking they are failed. Generally if any one is waiting,at time,he is deffinately eager or optimistic.But here the thing is contraversing,the dialogues are spoken by the characters are pessimistic e.g.
Estragon:"Nothing we can do about it''
Estragon:''We always find something,eh Didi,
to give us the impression we exist.''
These two statements by Estragon,points out to,the inability of the characters to undertake meaningful action according to time.And due to this they have difficulty in believing that even their presence is meaningful or not.So, according to me,IT IS WAITING FOR TIME WITH
PESSIMISTIC THOUGHTS.It is made like this because of the poor,frustrated and monotonous mentality of its characters.

Dear I agree with Your view on 'Waiting For Godot' that we can take Godot as Good Time or Good Oppurtunity. For this the characters of this play perhaps Waiting. I would like to add that we can also take Godot as a God. As we know that it's an Absurd drama so all that things perhaps depends on person's thinking ability from which the characters of this play are not able to do so. So it's very nice view on this text.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your view on 'Waiting for Godot' that it is an absurd play.And I would like to add some new view. We can interprete godot as our ambition or god.Because every person has their ambition or goal and to fulfill it they are waiting.This ambition becomes their Godot and after fulfill it another ambition becomes their Godot so we can say that there is no end of goal or ambition in our life. So there is no end of Waiting for Godot. We can also take Godot as God.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your views about 'Waiting for Godot' but I want to add something that in the play The two characters are are waiting for god with optimistic thoughts.There is irrationality in the thoughts and action in the play.
Nicely written you have in your post about the absurd play. I agree with your point that the two characters don't know even about their own existence that whether they raelly live or not. But agreeing with your point of view I further explain the reason why both the characers are in great waiting without any kind of purpose, because they are disillusioned,frustrated,helpless,hopeless and all the negative forces of the world they have. Their life is absolutely vulnerable and meaningless and that is why they even don't know why they are waiting. In "The Waste Land" you will find the hopelessness and meaninglessness as it is the general characteristic of the 20th century literature especilly after the two monstrous world wars.
ReplyDeleteThe title 'Waiting for Godot'is well defined in your blog, you could interpret the title meaningfully but I think you should keep in mind that the drama is a transleted one originally from French and as far as French title is concern the title can be translated as 'While waiting for Godot', concentration should be on 'TIME' rather than any 'PERSON'. The second thing is absurdity or meaninglessness, which can be interpreted in both the ways, meaninglessness of 'Time'or the life of a 'Person'.
